Biographie

Fondée le 3 mars 1863 par la loi d'incorporation (Act of incorporation). Société privée à but non lucratif, composée de chercheurs émérites, menant des activités de recherche scientifique et technique avec pour but de conseiller le gouvernement fédéral. Sous l'autorité de sa charte, la National Academy of Sciences a établi la National academy of engineering en 1964 et Institute of medicine en 1970. Membre de National Academies, qui inclut la National academy of engineering (NAE), Institute of medicine (IOM), et National Research Council (NRC).
